This Shit Is Still Fun (Boobywatching)

I spent a good chunk of time on Eastern today.  It's always nice going over to Boobyland.  I get pretty jumpy over there every time we flush birds, because I'm always sure the next vagrant will present itself.  Nothing of the sort happened today.  But the surf was epic, extreme, and gnarly.  There were massive barrels breaking on the reef, which is probably a few miles away.  The bird counters finished counting today.  The results are in.  There are Hella birds.  Now, most of them are leaving tonight and returning to lives where they don't have to count an endless mass of Albatross forever.

The splendor that is the Red-footed Booby at sunrise.

Massive barrels.  So epic.

Looking At Boobies Is Still Fun And Will Never Get Old

I got two Island Birds Yesterday:  Green-winged Teal and Sanderling.  Not exactly face melters, but they do put me that much closer to beating Felonious Jive's Midway Atoll list and winning Eternal Glory Forever.  Oh wow, It's December.  That's pretty cray cray.  Do you all have your Christmas Trees up yet?  Have you had an egg nog to celebrate?  I would, but I don't think I can find any around here.  Here are some birds.  I didn't get satisfactory photos of my Island Birds, so these will have to suffice for now.

Red-footed Boobyface.

This is as graceful as it gets for an albatross coming in for a landing.  Sorry for cutting off your wings, bro.  They're really long.

Looking At Boobies Is Fun

I spent yesterday recovering mostly.  I went out to a spot called Reef Hotel for a nice snorkel.  It was fully legit.  The fish here are every color you can think of.  After all the snorkeling and a bit of birding, and then dinner, I PTFO again.  This time at about 7:30 pm.  It was ridick.  Then I accidentally woke up at 2 am.  Life was pain last night.  Anyhoo,  shit is super chill out here.  Pretty close to paradise.  Ima go dream of goonies now.  Night.

A hatch year Red-footed Booby in a tree.  Bam.  Simple as that.

This is a Keeltail Needlefish (or so they tell me).  It is awesome and beautiful.
