40 Days Of Hummer

By my calculations there will be 40 more TPADs.  The end of an era approaches.  I have decided to fill the remainder of the posts with nothing but hummingbird feeder shots.  Here goes.

Selasphorous hummingbirds are notoriously violent and territorial. This male owns this feeder and will murder any hummers that come near it.

Through Drooping Eyelids

I will never catch up on the sleep I lost in Nam.  Especially not tonight.

It's not easy being a biologist.

Yet another Allen's Hummingbird (presumably).

Steer With Knee

Well, I'm TPADing and driving.  A first.  Very Extreme.

Hummingbirds Are Good Photography Subjects

Good night, and good luck.  I will not be talking about my day.  I will only say that I saw at least two birds.

Possibly the first Barn Swallow on TPAD.

Isn't It Glorious

Well, it was a rough morning, but I got through it.  I found three nests and received a gold star as a reward.  My day off has come around again.  I'm thinking of joining Felonious Jive down in SD for some birding.  We shall see.

Allen's Hummingbird staredown. This isn't as intimidating as the Swainson's Hawk staredown a few days ago.

TPAD's first ever Hooded Oriole.  Isn't it glorious?

Thrashing Hummers

So I've been watching this show lately called Breaking Bad.  It's about this high school chemistry teacher that finds out he has lung cancer.  Upon hearing this horrible news, he does what any of us would do: he starts cooking and selling meth.  This all takes place in New Mexico and is an awesome story.  Somehow the show makes you root for a guy who is providing the worst drug in the world to the worst people in the world.  I don't know how they made a meth lab guy likable, but they did.  Work today was slow, but I saw some LeConte's Thrashers.  Which made it all worth it.

This is from a few days ago at Whittier Narrows.  But everyone loves hummingbirds, so I included it.

Citay Burds

It's time to head home for reals.  I'm about to get in my rented Chevy Aveo and drive up to Brushwood to see my family for the first time in nearly four months.  I'm pretty excited to see home again.  Should be a blast.  I spent all morning birding in the city and then met up with Mattbrady for a trip over to the East Bay.  We bagged the Tropical Kingbird in Richmond and then came back to SF.  I developed a sore throat at some point during all of this and am now contemplating suicide rather than the impending cold to come.  LIP.
