I Feel Sick From Pizza And Beer

I'm home in Angels Camp.  Another field season behind me.  With a belly full of pizza.  I was on the road for 9 hours.  It was not sick.

I will be seeing a lot less of this in the days to come.
This Long-billed? Dowitcher was a nice treat during my last visit to the poop ponds of Lancaster.  I'll miss that place.  Photo by Sultrysam.

This Western Sandpiper gave me momentary pause.  Thought it was sumthin better.

My body is full of this crap.  I'm gonna go to bed now.

I Had To Write About A Dead K-Rat

Yep, my no birding streak continues.  I was about to leave for the sewage ponds when I was rudely interrupted by work that needed doing.  So inconvenient.

A few Sooty and Pink-footed Shearwaters, which were part of the only flock of the day on saturday. Yawn.

A bit of variation in molt among a tight group of Western Sandpipers at Bolsa Chica.

Up Too Late, Up Too Early

Fell asleep without PADing my T.  So now I'm up early getting it done before work.  Nothing very cray happened yesterday, so I'm skipping the photos I have of butterflies and putting up two more Bolsa shots.

Black Skimmer

Western Sandpipers.  I will be combing over thousands of these things in the coming weeks looking for semipalmated and other goodies.

Poor Photos of Birds Doing Weird Things

So I saw birds doing things that I have rarely, if ever, seen before.

I've always read that shorebirds have really dexterous bills.  I've just never really seen it in action.  Here is a Western Sandpiper showing off.

At North Landing yesterday, I witnessed an epic battle between Crab and Pelagic Cormorant.  It lasted several minutes and ended with the corm finally shaking the crab off it's head.  Crab was then eaten by a California Sea-lion.
